French Government Mulls Allowing Destructive Research on Human Embryos

PARIS, Jan 18, 02 (LSN.ca/CWNews.com) - France's Socialist government tabled a bill Tuesday which would permit destructive research on human embryos, a practice which has been illegal in France since 1994. The bill does ban all human cloning, barring cloning "for therapeutic purposes."

The Associated Press reports that most lawmakers support the legislation which will not be voted on for several months. Under the legislation, scientists will be allowed to conduct deadly experiments on embryonic unborn human beings created during in vitro fertilization.
