Chronology of Catholic Dioceses:Notes on the Apostolic Prefecture of Dutch Guyana / Suriname 1817
In 1817, two priests from the Archpriestship Holland, Zeeland en West-Friesland (also called the Archpriestship of Haarlem) settled in the colony and the Apostolic Prefecture was immediately set up. (Before, in 1786-1793, there had been an attempt to establish a mission directly by the Congregation of the "Propaganda Fide".)
The Archpriestship Holland, Zeeland en West-Friesland was a subdivision of the Mission "sui iuris" of Batavia / Holland.
