ROME, OCT. 13, 2000 (ZENIT.org).- Istanbul has dedicated a street to Pope John XXIII, who once worked in the Vatican diplomatic service in Turkey.

The gesture is in commemoration of the recent beatification of the «good Pope,» who worked in Turkey from 1935 to 1944. The Pontiff began to learn Turkish to «give example.» The street is in the Sisli neighborhood.

The Turkish Embassy in the Vatican has organized a series of meetings in Rome to honor the memory of the new blessed.

Bishop Loris Capovilla, former secretary of John XXIII, will give a talk Oct. 16 in the Roman Church of St. Andrew in the Quirinale.
