VATICAN CITY, JUNE 15, 2001 (Zenit.org).- International promotion for World Day 2002 got under way today in Rome with the showing of a film on the spiritual legacy of Mother Teresa.
The meeting, organized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity and the Canadian Committee for World Youth Day 2002, has attracted 70 people representing bishops' conferences as well as international youth movements, associations and communities. The meeting ends Sunday.
Cardinal James Francis Stafford, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, and Cardinal Aloysius Ambrozic, archbishop of Toronto, will address the representatives.
Already, 400,000 reservations have been made for the July 2002 event in the Canadian city. Organizers expect that about 1 million youths will participate.
Father Thomas Rosica, national director of the Canadian Committee, presented the logo for the 2002 event. The top of the center design is blue, representing Canadian waters. Christ's cross is at the center of the blue, a reminder of John Paul II's pastoral staff. A yellow circle, symbolizing the Body of Christ - the mass of youth that will be present in Toronto - is the link with World Youth Day 2000. At the bottom, in red, is the Canadian maple leaf.
