TORONTO, Aug 2, 02 (LSN.ca/CWNews.com) - Toronto police have reported that the crime rate in Toronto actually dropped during World Youth Day's week-long events last month. Muggings and street crime were down from the usual numbers, Sergeant Robb Knapper told the Toronto Star.
«There were no crime-related incidents involving pilgrims,» he said. «We had tons of lost passports, knapsacks, and other stuff, but no reports of anyone being involved in crime.»
Similar drops in crime were reported by police following World Youth Days in Denver in 1993, in Paris in 1997, and Rome in 2000.
