WARSAW, Aug 6, 02 (CWNews.com) - Cardinal Jozef Glemp, the primate of Poland, has asked the faithful of that country to pray for the health of Pope John Paul II as the Pontiff prepares for a visit to his homeland.

Speaking to thousands of Catholics participating in an annual pilgrimage to the revered shrine Our Lady of Czestochowa, Cardinal Glemp called for «intensive prayers» that the Pope would be able to «come in health» and «reap the benefits» of his trip.

The Holy Father is due to visit Poland on August 16- 19. His schedule calls for only a few public appearances, in and around Krakow, where he once served as archbishop.
