JERUSALEM (CWNews.com) - A spokesman for Jubilee Year celebrations in the Holy Land on Thursday said rabbis were infringing on the rights of Christians by pressuring hotels to close Friday night, New Year's Eve and the start of the Jewish Sabbath.
Israel's Chief Rabbinate had made an agreement with hotels to hold celebrations behind closed doors, but Jerusalem's rabbis have pressured hotels to ban any festivities altogether. "This is totally against human rights and the basic right of freedom of expression," Wadee' Abu Nasser, director of the Catholic Holy Land Millennium celebrations.
"Imagine you are a pilgrim and want to celebrate in your hotel. It's totally unacceptable. I think this is mainly an inter-Jewish fight and I don't like it to be at the expense of Christians," Abu Nasser said.
