VATICAN, Aug 8, 02 (CWNews.com) - During his regular weekly public audience on Wednesday, August 8, Pope John Paul II joked with Polish visitors about the trip he will make to his homeland later in the month.

The Holy Father met with pilgrims at his summer residence in Castelgandolfo. This year he is remaining at that summer residence for weekly audiences, rather than traveling back to the Vatican by helicopter, because of his difficulty in moving.

In spite of his physical ailments, the Pope-- who appeared relaxed-- made it clear that he is looking forward to his visit to Poland, which will take place August 16- 19. The highlight of that visit will be the dedication, on August 17, of a Divine Mercy shrine in Lagiewniki, outside Krakow.
